Come Together – Gary Clark Jr, 2016
You’ve got to be pretty brave to cover a Beatles track I would suggest. You’ve got to be extremely brave to put your name anywhere near a DC film at the moment too. But Gary Clark Jr has done both.
And, whilst we’ll have to wait until the end of the week to see the film, Clark Jr’s rendition of ‘Come Together’ is brilliant. It’s as loud, as aggresive and as dark as the trailers for Justice League look. Which is handy because the music video is basically a re-hash of the trailers cut with Clark Jr doing some kind of gig in the desert and looking distinctly cross about it.
Luckily, he’s as cool as…a very cool thing…so he pulls it off easily. I don’t know a huge amount of his music, yet, but everything I’ve heard is just that – downright cool.
With the wailing guitar and the distorted vocals there’s a definite throwback to Puff Daddy and Jimmy Page’s outing for the Godzilla movie soudtrack with ‘Come With Me’. Which was also pretty badass.
Anyway. Where do you stand on it? Good, bad or just don’t ever cover the Beatles? Though Elbow seem to have done a fine job with ‘Golden Slumbers’. Let me know below, along with your thoughts on what the film is going to be like.
